Set in Kenya’s dramatic northern frontier, Samburu National Reserve and Shaba National Reserve offer a safari experience that feels raw, remote, and deeply exclusive. This arid yet beautiful landscape is defined by rugged hills, open savannahs, and the life-giving Ewaso Ng’iro River, which draws wildlife in remarkable concentrations.
Renowned for rare northern species found nowhere else in Kenya’s mainstream parks, Samburu and Shaba are home to the iconic “Samburu Special Five”: Grevy’s zebra, reticulated giraffe, Somali ostrich, gerenuk, and Beisa oryx. Elephant herds, big cats, and over 450 bird species add depth to every game drive, while the scenery delivers a cinematic backdrop for luxury safaris.

When to Go – Samburu & Shaba
Samburu and Shaba are excellent year-round safari destinations, but the best time to visit is June to October and December to March, when dry conditions concentrate wildlife along the river and game viewing is at its peak. The greener months of April–May and November offer lush scenery, fewer visitors, and superb birdlife perfect for travelers seeking serenity and value in a luxury safari setting
